We successfully bid for the 20th International Symposium for Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU) in 2020. The four-day event is held annually on different continents, between April and June. Organized by the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound, ISTU seeks to increase and share knowledge within the scientific and medical community, and to help find clinical applications for therapeutic ultrasound techniques with ultimate goal of benefitting patients worldwide. As part of our efforts, Gyeongju CVB attended ISTU 2018 (May 14-17) held in Nashville, USA with the Korean Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound (KSTU). We presented our bid proposal to the international society’s board of directors, and promoted Gyeongju’s advantages as a host city. Chang Jin-woo, KSTU president and head of the neurosurgery department at Yonsei University College of Medicine expressed his delight with the results, stating “I am very happy we will be able to bring together some 400 doctors, scholars, researchers, and other professionals in Gyeongju, the most traditionally Korean city of all. We will make every effort to make ISTU 2020 a success.” Yoon Seung-hyun, president of Gyeongju CVB, was also in attendence at the event in Nashville to help Korea’s bid. He greeted the successful result by stating, “We will reflect the opinions of both the Korean and international societies to help the hosts with their conference preparations and to improve convenience for the attendees who will be visiting our city. To do so, we will work harder than ever on laying the groundwork for conventions in Gyeongju.” Meanwhile, ISTU 2020 is will be held at Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO) during a four day period in May.
